DUNDEE (Ship) (Coll. 55, Vol. 46)

This journal of the DUNDEE into Arctic waters around Greenland is Volume 46 in the Scoresby Family Papers .

William Scoresby, Sr.  was the harpooner on the first voyage and subsequently master.

Scoresby was from Whitby, England who, between 1791 and 1822, commanded thirty whaling voyages into dangerous Arctic waters and never lost a ship. He is credited with inventing the top gallant “crow’s nest” in 1807, and numerous other things connected with whaling operations.
