Abstract: This collection is comprised of 15 file follders contained in one document case. The first 12 folders contain shipping papers, etc, arranged chronologically between 1863 and 1884. Included here are outfitting bills and receipts, charter-parties, bills of lading, cargo manifests, letters to Alfred Pinkham and various port and consulate documents. Folder 13 has two “Fisherman’s Shipping Papers” for schooner DIPLOMA, 1873, while folder 14 contains nine shipping articles for various schooners 1872-1883. The last folder contains related undated and unidentified materials.

Biography of Alfred H. Pinkham

Alfred H. Pinkham (1841-1885) was a shipmaster from Boothbay, Maine. Between 1863 and 1884 he was master of the schooners CYNOSURE, DIPLOMA, STEPHEN G. PINKHAM, ELLA, BOXER, and MATILDA. These vessels sailed primarily from New York and traded with ports like Baltimore, Boston, Portland and Boothbay, Maine, Haiti, Baracoa (Cuba), Luanda (Angola), Cape Town, Hong Kong and Manila.
