History of the New Haven Steamboat Company

The New Haven Steamboat Company was chartered in 1822 to operate passenger and freight steamers between New York City and New Haven. In 1899 the company extended service to Providence. In 1900 the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad acquired the company and in 1904 the railroad’s New England Navigation Company purchased it.
